Virtual joint-flight to the moon

The MiLa Project on the Apollo missions.

Between 26 September and 3 October the SLO Mikołajki hosted students from the LO in dek-Zdrój, a town in the south-west Poland severely affected by the recent flood.

A group of students from both schools carried out a project on the Apollo missions aiming at landing humans on the moon. They researched the subject in a few areas such as The Space Race, the manned and unmanned missions as well as the objectives the missions accomplished and, last but not least, the language heritage, i.e. the phrases uttered by the astronauts that have come into the English language.

The students were divided into six teams and each one presented their findings to the rest of the students. The first team dealt with the Space Race so they looked into the motives that fuelled the Apollo project. The second team talked about the built of an Apollo rocket. Then three teams introduced details of the missions from 1 to 17. The last team emphasised that such everyday English phrases as “Houston, we’ve had a problem here.” or “It’s a small step for a man but a giant leap for mankind.” that enriched the English thesaurus originally were spoken by the Apollo missions crew members.

Lądek-Zdrój, thank you for the virtual joint-flight to the moon.
